iPhone Support & Troubleshooting
From a battery that fades by lunchtime to a phone stuck on the Apple logo — here's independent, plain-English help for the iPhone issues we see most.
Your iPhone does a lot, so when something goes sideways it's easy to feel stuck. The good news: most everyday problems come down to a handful of settings, a restart, or a software hiccup you can clear yourself. Below are the areas Helprix helps with most. Work through the steps at your own pace, and if anything is unclear, reach out and we'll tailor it to your exact situation.
Try these first
- Restart the iPhone: hold the side button and a volume button, then slide to power off.
- Check for a software update in Settings › General › Software Update.
- Confirm you have signal and Wi-Fi, and that Airplane Mode is off.
- Make a quick backup to iCloud or your computer before deeper troubleshooting.
Battery & charging
Battery and charging complaints are the number-one iPhone issue we hear about. Before assuming the battery is failing, rule out the simple causes:
- Try a different cable and adapter — frayed cables and cheap chargers are the usual culprit.
- Gently clean the charging port; lint packs in and blocks a solid connection.
- Check Settings › Battery to see which apps use the most power.
- Look at Battery Health & Charging for your maximum capacity.
If the phone charges fine but drains fast, background app refresh, push email and a low battery-health percentage are common factors. We can help you read the numbers and decide what is worth changing.
Won't turn on or is frozen
A black screen is alarming, but it is often just a frozen system rather than a dead phone. Try a force restart, which is safe and doesn't erase anything:
- iPhone 8 and later: press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
- iPhone 7: hold Volume Down and the Side button together.
- Let it charge for at least 30 minutes first if the battery may be flat.
Stuck on the Apple logo or a recovery screen? That usually needs a guided recovery through a computer. We can walk you through it without wiping your data where possible.
Activation & setup
New phone, or one that won't get past setup? Activation issues are usually about the network, the Apple ID, or an Activation Lock left on by a previous owner.
- Make sure the SIM is seated and your carrier account is active.
- Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network to complete activation.
- Have your Apple ID and password ready for the setup steps.
Important: if the device asks for a previous owner's Apple ID (Activation Lock), only that owner or Apple can remove it. We'll help you confirm what you're seeing and what to do next.
Face ID & passcode
Face ID that stops recognising you is often environmental or setup-related, not a fault:
- Clean the front camera area and remove anything covering it.
- Re-run Set Up Face ID, and add an Alternate Appearance if your look changes often.
- Check that Face ID is enabled for the features you're using (unlock, payments, apps).
If you're locked out after too many attempts, don't keep guessing — that can trigger longer lockouts. Contact us and we'll guide you through the safe recovery route.
Storage & performance
"Storage Almost Full" slows everything down and blocks updates and backups. Reclaim space methodically:
- Open Settings › General › iPhone Storage for personalised recommendations.
- Offload large unused apps and clear downloaded videos and podcasts.
- Review Photos — move originals to iCloud or your computer, then empty Recently Deleted.
If performance is still sluggish after freeing space, a restart and a software update often help. We can suggest what's safe to remove without losing anything you need.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & updates
Connection drops and stalled updates are usually fixable in a few steps:
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off, then forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi network.
- For Bluetooth, remove the device under Settings › Bluetooth and pair it fresh.
- For a stuck update, ensure enough free storage and a stable connection, then retry.
Still fighting it? A network-settings reset can clear stubborn issues — we'll explain exactly what it does before you tap anything.
Still stuck? Some problems need a closer look at your specific setup. The Helprix team can guide you through more detailed troubleshooting tailored to exactly what you're seeing.
