iPad Support & Troubleshooting
Whether your iPad is fresh out of the box or acting up after years of use, here's independent, easy-to-follow help for the issues that come up most.
iPads are wonderfully simple until they aren't — a stubborn Apple Pencil, a screen that ignores your taps, or a setup that stalls. Most of it is quick to sort once you know where to look. Below are the areas Helprix helps with most; if your situation is a little different, get in touch and we'll adapt the steps for you.
Try these first
- Restart the iPad, then check Settings › General › Software Update.
- Confirm Wi-Fi is connected and Airplane Mode is off.
- Clean the screen and remove any case or cover that overlaps the display edges.
- Back up to iCloud or your computer before deeper troubleshooting.
Setup, Apple ID & iCloud
Most setup snags trace back to the Apple ID or the network. To get through the assistant smoothly:
- Join a stable Wi-Fi network before you begin.
- Have your Apple ID and password ready — reset it in advance if you're unsure.
- Choose whether to restore from a backup or set up as new; we can help you decide.
If iCloud won't sync photos, notes or files across devices, check that iCloud is switched on for each app under Settings › [your name] › iCloud, and that you're signed in with the same Apple ID everywhere.
Charging & battery
iPads need more power than a phone charger sometimes provides, which is a frequent cause of "not charging":
- Use the higher-wattage adapter that came with the iPad, not a small phone plug.
- Try another cable and clean out the charging port gently.
- Let it charge 30 minutes before judging — a deeply drained iPad wakes slowly.
If battery life dropped suddenly, a recent app or setting is usually behind it. Check Settings › Battery to see what's using the most power.
Screen & touch issues
Unresponsive or erratic touch is often about what's on the screen rather than the screen itself:
- Remove screen protectors or cases that overlap the edges.
- Dry your hands and wipe the display — moisture confuses the digitiser.
- Force restart the iPad to clear a temporary glitch.
If only part of the screen is affected, note exactly where and when it happens. That detail helps us tell a software issue from something that may need a repair.
Apple Pencil & accessories
An Apple Pencil that won't write usually just needs re-pairing or a charge:
- Check the battery — magnetically attach a 2nd-gen Pencil, or plug in a 1st-gen to charge.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on, then re-pair the Pencil.
- Confirm your iPad model actually supports your Pencil generation.
Keyboards and other accessories follow the same logic: check the connection, the charge, and compatibility. Tell us your exact iPad and accessory and we'll confirm what should work.
Storage & apps
Apps that crash or won't update are often a storage or version problem:
- Open Settings › General › iPad Storage to free space and spot heavy apps.
- Update apps, then update iPadOS — mismatched versions cause crashes.
- Offload and reinstall a misbehaving app to reset it without losing its documents.
We can help you clear space safely and get problem apps behaving again.
Backup & restore
A good backup turns a scary problem into a minor one. Before any major change:
- Back up to iCloud (Settings › [your name] › iCloud › iCloud Backup) or to a computer.
- Confirm the backup completed and note its date before you reset anything.
- When restoring, keep the iPad on Wi-Fi and charging until it finishes.
